There’s nothing quite like hot chocolate. It’s heaven on earth...in a mug. It’s something so simple that is arguably loved by everyone.
Hot chocolate is a staple in winter, but sometimes the classic chocolate mix and hot milk doesn’t satisfy the sweetest of teeth.
We have a bunch of sweet tooth's in the office who shared their favourite hot chocolate recipes to help you amp up your chocolate game!
Recipe #1 – Nutella Hot Chocolate
Who doesn't love Nutella? That sweet, nutty, chocolate spread that takes you back to your childhood days. Adding a spoonful (or more if you dare) of this indulgence will take your hot chocolate to the next level!
You need:
- 200 ml of your favourite milk (Full cream, Skim, Almond, Soy or Oat)
- 1 or 2 x Podista Hazelnut Chocolate
- 1 – 2 tsp x Nutella (or more)
Directions:
- Heat milk in milk frother - or use your machine steam wand
- Extract 1 or 2 of the Podista Hazelnut Chocolate into a mug
- Add Nutella and mix
- Add the heated frothed milk
Take it to the next level (optional)
- Top up with whipped cream as high as Mount Everest
- Garnish with crushed hazelnuts, grated dark chocolate and a marshmallow (or 10)
Recipe #2 – Chilli Hot Chocolate
This devilish mix of sweet and spicy is a fiery treat for the adventurous soul. Beware...the heat of the chillies takes this classic favourite to another dimension!
Ingredients:
- 200 ml of your favourite milk (Full cream, Skim, Almond, Soy or Oat)
- 1 or 2 x Podista Smooth & Creamy pods
- 1/2 tsp x Chilli powder or to taste
- 1/2 tsp x Cinnamon powder
- 1 pinch flaky salt
- Heat milk in milk frother - or use your machine steam wand
- Extract 1 or 2 of the Podista Smooth & Creamy pods into a mug
- Add the chilli powder, cinnamon and a pinch of salt
- Add the heated frothed milk
Take it to the next level (optional)
- Top up with whipped cream as high as Mount Everest
- Throw in a cinnamon stick - feel free to use it as a straw!
- Shake some cinnamon powder on top...or chilli flakes if you like to live life on the edge
Recipe #3 – Mars Bar Hot Chocolate
If Mars Bars aren't one of the best chocolate bars to ever bless our planet, then I don't know what is! That combination of chocolate, chewy caramel, soft nougat and malted milk can be experienced in this melt in your mouth drink.
Ingredients:
- 200 ml of your favourite milk (Full cream, Skim, Almond, Soy or Oat)
- 1 or 2 x Podista Caramel Chocolate pods
- 1 tsp x Malt powder/extract
- 1 tsp x Vanilla essence
- 1 pinch flaky salt
Directions:
- Heat milk in milk frother - or use your machine steam wand
- Extract 1 or 2 of the Podista Caramel Chocolate pods into a mug
- Add a teaspoon of malt extract and vanilla essence
- Add a pinch of salt
- Add the heated frothed milk
Take it to the next level (optional)
- Top up with whipped cream as high as Mount Everest
- Add chopped Mars bar, sprinkle some grated dark chocolate and drizzle caramel sauce to garnish
More of a Snickers fan? Add 1 tsp of peanut butter in step 3 and sprinkle some crushed peanuts on top in step 7.
Recipe #4 – Mint Slice Hot Chocolate (alcoholic)
This spiked mint hot chocolate is strictly for adults only. Tuck the little ones in, grab your partner or your best friends and put on your favourite Netflix show as you indulge in one (or a few) mugs of these!
Ingredients:
- 200 ml of your favourite milk (Full cream, Skim, Almond, Soy or Oat)
- 1 or 2 x Podista Mint Chocolate pods
- 15 ml x Peppermint schnapps
- 15 ml x Crème de menthe
- 15 ml Crème de cacao
Directions:
- Heat milk in milk frother - or use your machine steam wand
- Extract 1 or 2 of the Podista Smooth & Creamy pods into a mug
- Add Peppermint schnapps, crème de menthe and crème de cacao
- Add the heated frothed milk
Take it to the next level (optional)
- Top up with whipped cream as high as Mount Everest
- Garnish with grated dark chocolate and a marshmallow (or 10)
- Grab some Mint Slices, bite the top and bottom of it and use it to suck up your hot chocolate goodness, then eat your melted treat
Recipe #5 – Low Sugar Iced Chocolate
Sometimes we're craving a chocolate fix but our waistline is saying no - but that doesn't mean you have to miss out! Swapping for some low sugar ingredients makes it easy for you to have your cake and eat it too ; )
Ingredients:
- 200 ml of your favourite milk (Full cream, Skim, Almond, Soy or Oat)
- 1 or 2 x Podista Sugar Free Chocolate or Poddies Sugar Free Chocolate
- 3 - 4 x Ice cubes
Directions:
- Add ice cubes to a tall glass
- Extract 1 or 2 of the Podista Sugar Free Chocolate or Poddies Sugar Free Chocolate into the glass
- Fill with cold Milk
Optional
- Top up with a little sugar free whipped cream
- Sprinkle a little grated dark chocolate to garnish... oh go on, sprinkle a bit more, dark chocolate is healthy anyway right?!
