With the creation of coffee capsule/pod many coffee brands have created their own pod designs and machines. There are now many options on the market, so we have made this blog to help you work out which pods will work on your machine.
Nespresso® OriginalLine* Compatibility
All Nespresso®* Originalline/Original compatible pods are compatible with all DeLonghi / Breville Nespresso®* machines, including Le Cube, all Essenza models, all Citiz models, all Pixie models, all Lattissima models, all U models, Maestria and Inissia coffee machines (shown in order below). They are not compatible with Nespresso®* Vertuoline/Vertuo machines. Compatibility cannot be guaranteed with the following professional machines: Gaggia, Saeco or Siemens machines, Kitchen Aid machines, built-in models (Miele), Romeo Nespresso®* machine and capsule-holder machines, nor with multi-capsule machines.
Pod, Capsule, Pad?
Coffee pods are also known as coffee capsules and there are also the ESE or Easy Serving Espresso pod/pads which are made from filter paper. However, the term ‘pod’ is the most often used and is now synonymous with coffee capsules. They are made from aluminum or plastic and were popularized by Nespresso. We chose to use the term 'Pod'.
Nespresso Original and Nespresso Vertuo
The most common and widely used design of pod is the Nespresso Original or classic pod. This has been on the market the longest. Third party manufactures like us here at Express Pods sell nespresso compatible pods for this style of system. Nespresso have recently created a new system called the Vertuo line. These Vertuo pods come in different sizes which contain varying amount of coffee grinds to suit different types of coffee. These Vertuo pods have a barcode on their rim that prevent any third party from producing compatible pods that will work on this machine.
Vittoria and Nescafe
As the market has grown considerably, established coffee brands have designed their own machines and pod designs to work on them. For instance, Vittoria and Nescafe both have machines and these systems have completely different designs with different shapes and sizes. Vittorria has their Espressotoria system and Nescafe has Dolce Gusto.
Woolworths and Aldi
There is also the Caffitaly or Map system which is often purchased at Woolworths/Safeway. These pods are very similar to Aldis’ Expressi machine and K-fee pods. Most of the time these pods will work on both Caffitaly and K-fee machines interchangeably, but you may need to check the compatibility as there are various aspects that contribute to the pods working on both systems (grind size, fill weight, design). Our sister brand Urban Brew sells Caffitaly and K-fee compatible pods that work on both systems.
We have chosen to produce pods for the Nespresso Original machine as it has been around the longest and is the most widely used.
We have included an info graphic below to help you work out which design will work on your machine.
I hope you found this useful.
